What an Ice Storm Taught Me About Resilience
Feb 02, 2026
I’m sitting in a coffee shop in South Carolina, looking out the window at a big snow pile. Rather unusual for around here! We had an ice storm three days ago, and they were expecting us to have significant power outages. That didn’t happen, while to our west, it did.
Our local news pointed out that we likely didn’t lose power because, a little over a year ago, we endured Hurricane Helene. That was a disaster. My home was without power for a week, and in some areas with widespread devastation, people were without power for weeks or even months. And yet… that previous storm likely wiped out any weak or unhealthy trees, which minimized the tree fall we had this time around.
What a life analogy, right? The storms we’ve been through in the past prune us, prepare us, and make us stronger for the next go-round. If you are in a season of struggle, know that it is producing a work in you (even though it may be hard to see right now). Keep going, and ask God to reveal the purpose in the pain.
